Yoga Under the Stars

Well, against the advice of my physical therapist, I went to yoga tonight. It wasn’t a great day today so I gave myself permission. I used knuckles every time we were on our hands and got through the class without pain and very little discomfort. I had my pain cream loaded on thick and used a tight wrap. The class being taught outside was a bonus; just like last time, this one bright, twinkling star kept calling to me and I felt the presence of my dad… winking at me. Everything’s going to be okay.

In the photo is Gwen Talbert, my fav teacher. I love her immeasurably and it was so good to see her tonight. Thank you, Gwen. Great class.

Wrist Joy

So, I’ve got inflamed cartilage in my Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) – essentially the mushy stuff in the left wrist. It’s been creeping up on me slowly for about two months now and this week I went to my sports medicine doctor about it who had me take an x-ray, got me on some good oral and topical meds, and sent me to physical therapy at a place that specializes in hands. First visit was yesterday and they guy was very nice and explained a lot and he’s pretty confident he can get me back in yoga as soon as 4-5 weeks, maybe a little longer. I could technically go to a class, but it’s hard to do Vinyasa yoga without bearing weight on your wrists. Send love, y’all.

I got the most awesome present in the mail from Leah yesterday. She’s quite the mind reader! I’ve been looking for a good resource like this that has all the basic asanas and the Sanskrit broken down. It’s PERFECT, Leah, thank you!

Manduka Yoga Mats

Terry and I got new yoga mats this weekend. We’ve really been dedicated in our practice, so it was time to move up to a better mat. We just had cheapo $15 mats and we moved up to the Manduka Pro. We just got back from Gwen Talbert’s LifePower Vinyasa 2 class and used them for the first time. Just “like good cookware, you’ve got to season them and break them in.” Spot on. Things were a bit slippery today, but Terry and I can both tell it’s going to be a big difference and we’re going to love them. Hopefully we can break them in a bit more before Friday, but if not, I’m sure doing 108 Sun Salutations is going to help them along.
