PF Chang’s Half Marathon 2010
Yesterday was one of the best days of my life. The PF Chang’s 2010 Marathon and Half Marathon. I ran the half: 13.1 miles. Around May 2009, after I got back home from Leah and Mark’s wedding, I decided I was going to train for a marathon. I started running at the gym, joined a running club, I Know A Guy Racing, in August and have been training a bit on my own. Around August, I decided that I was going to go for a half marathon instead of the full 26.2 miles – baby steps. I have to admit, even with the Garmin, which is invaluable, I still didn’t train as hard as I would have liked to, nor have I completely stopped smoking. Regardless, I did great yesterday, coming in only a minute and change over my expected 2:40 race time. I came in at 2:41:27. That’s with 2 bathroom stops! I didn’t time out the whole bladder situation like I should have. Running alone was okay – it would have been really nice to have had somenoe to run along with, but I had an amazing playlist on my MP3 player and that kept me going. Terry and Justine dropped me off at the start line and drove up to somewhere around mile 3.5 and said hello: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGx9pLc-adw I had a bit of knee pain around mile 7, but walked for about 60 seconds while I queued up a ‘power song’, had some water and kept going. Finishing was amazing – I started to well up around mile 12. As planned, I put on “Eye of the Tiger” for my last mile/finish – totally corny, and I was cracking up on the inside, but it was like some silly scene from a movie… I felt like I was running in slow motion across the finish line, but I’m pretty sure my Garmin says otherwise. All in all, I feel amazing. I’m pretty sore today, but keeping Icy Hot on my muscles and taking it easy. Hopefully, Terry will run with me soon, and maybe one day we can do a half (or maybe even a full) together someday. I know Aubrey’s in. :)
Hehe…I use Eye of the Tiger in much the same way. It is a “weapon”! :) Great job! So proud of you!!
